The Marnies - Electric Wires

Yet another band I would never have heard of without the wonderful Wilfully Obscure, these were an Australian quartet who seem to have nothing to their name but this lone 7", from 1989. Pity, because it's quite a catchy little tune, with obvious Church influences in the guitars but also clearly drawing a bit from the C86 crowd. Whatever became of them?

Hi I am Pat McArdle former member of the Marnies. Before this single which was a double A side we released a tape that had 5 songs on it. We still have reunions and continue to write songs. Here is a link to my sound cloud www.soundcloud.com/patrickmcardle

Thanks Cinnamon, you’re reading of our single is spot on. The Marnies were massively influenced by The Church, but I was also aware of the indie guitar pop scene you refer to as C86. I’d spend time in the UK and met a girl in Glasgow who used to send me mix tapes of UK jangle and twee pop bands. I loved the early Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine records. So this experience converged with Australian influences, obviously The Church, but also the Go Betweens. Thanks for posting our single Anthony C.
